                            Chapter 3
                          The Great War

210: Exile of Loriel
Elrohir, King of the Elves, exiles his Queen, Loriel, after a
marital disagreement. She is taken to the icy north, according to
Elrohir, a place akin to her icy heart. The island of her exile
is known as Tol Kheleklhun (Isle of Blue Ice). Her family joins
her in solidarity against the king's injustice.

300: Birth of the Helunians
Loriel finally succumbs to Dagnir's pleas for an audience. He
convinces her to become the first of a new race, ideally suited
to the rigors of the frozen wastes. The Helunians (or Blue Elves)
are born.

316: Coup at Elfinhome
Loriel returns secretly to Elfinhome with Dagnir, charming
Linhir, the master bard of Elrohir's court and one of the young
king's closest friends. Linhir is made to memorize a hymn to the
Demon-God Kos and is told to assassinate Elrohir when the moment
of confusion descends upon the unsuspecting Elves. Later, at
Elrohir's court, the charmed Linhir sings the hymn in the demonic
tongue as told, and Kos arrives, vomiting a poisonous ichor upon
the nobles and guests. Many succumb to the God's magic and emerge
as hideous Muzgash (Orcs). However, those of the strongest will
(such as the King) shake off the vile concoction and are merely
stunned. Linhir moves to kill Elrohir as ordered, but at the last
moment he kills himself rather than perform the deed implanted
within his mind by Loriel.
Meanwhile, Loriel herself is stupefied by what is occurring,
and seeing her own folly in taking Dagnir as an ally, tries to
kill the mage. She succeeds only in wounding him before she is
forced to retreat from the Muzgash. While hiding in the palace,
she discovers Elrohir, and they are forced to trust each other
due to the overriding necessity of not getting caught. They
manage an escape and return to Tol Kheleklhun in 321.

316-338: The Great War
Dagnir, fearful of an elvish uprising, forms a temple to Kos
in the heart of the palace, and sends the Muzgash forth to
capture the Elves both inside the city and in the surrounding
woodlands. These are brought back to the temple and transformed
into Muzgash via a magical cauldron of stale water which Kos
leaves in Dagnir's custody. Dwarven soldiers are also brought to
the cauldron after Elrohir enlists Naro's aid as per the pact
between the two races. These are transformed by the cauldron into
Goblins which Dagnir uses to fight the Dwarves in the lands
beneath the earth. Even the flock of pegasi, children of Glosfin,
are not spared, but are instead transformed into dreaded
demonsteeds, dark winged beasts with a vile temperament.
Despite these victories, however, Dagnir is unable to launch
an effective offensive against the Helunians, this partly due to
incessant attacks by the Dwarves who are instructed to take their
own lives before succumbing to capture. King Naro leads many of
these attacks but is finally slain in 337 and is succeeded by his
son, Angbor (Ironfist). The Dwarven onslaught following news of
Naro's death is so fierce that it convinces Dagnir to reach a
peace agreement with Elrohir before Elfinhome falls. It is agreed
in 338 that Dagnir and his following will leave the city (such as
it is) and that the Cult of the Green Shadow will be recognized
and sanctioned by King Elrohir and be allowed to practice its
magic at Orod Caraknar for all time.

351: Birth of Elendur
After the war, Loriel opts to live separately from Elrohir,
despite his proclamations that his love for her is renewed.
However, she bears him a son in 351 who she names Elendur (partly
after the remembrance of Elrohir's father, Elendil, and partly
for the star which it is rumored the royal couple spoke to while
apart).

338-380: Continued Fighting
Though deprived of wizardly leadership and headquarters, the
Muzgash and Goblins continue to play a strong role in the region
around Elfinhome, and though almost every battle the armies of
Elrohir and Angbor emerge victorious, the two kings become
increasingly dismayed by how quickly new bands of the hideous
creatures seem to crop up. Their cycle of propagation is just too
swift, outpacing the Dwarves and Elves several times over,
though, luckily, they aren't half as skilled as the Elves and
Dwarves from whom they were made, nor half as intelligent in the
arts of war, nor are they magically talented, nor even half as
well organized or well equipped. Despite all this, however, they
are many, and they breed like gnats on a warm pile of ****.
Dagnir, threatened with renewed conflict because of his hordes
of former minions, attempts to call off the mutants on several
occasions, however, soon it is apparent that even he cannot
command them. A temporary peace is finally realized when the
dwarves finally allow the mutants to pass over the mountains and
into the eastern jungles where, perhaps for convenience sake, the
Muzgash and Goblins begin fighting each other.
