The Kinar Tribes (Grass Giants)
-------------------------------

The Kinar are a humanoid race of plains-dwelling giants. They average
about 9' tall and are covered with very thin yellow-green fur. They are
generally lean but muscular in build. Kinar have long hair the same color as
their fur and males have mane-like combinations of long beards and hair.

Kinar live in semi-nomadic tribes of 50-100 individuals. A tribe will
generally keep herds of 100-600 grazing animals (the ungulate Huboks are most
common, but smaller grazers like the Oodants are also kept). In an average
tribe, 40% of individuals will be males and 60% females. About half of these
will be children. The tribes inhabit great grasslands and savanas, where
they sometimes establish small simple farms. The Kinar move on when they
have exhausted the land in their present area, having no concept of fallowing
and other soil-preserving techniques. Sometimes tribes will move en masse to
human cities and villages to trade meat for metal implements and such.

Each Kinar tribe is led by a cheif. The cheifdom is elected by open
ballot, but generally the eldest son of the outgoing chief will win. Kinar
are polygamous, with males having 1-3 wives generally, though chiefs may have
many more. Most tribes will also have several shamans whose high status
brings them many wives. The shaman acts as an adviser to the chief and as
the tribe's healer.

Kinar are generally open and friendly. They welcome visitors and will
commonly hold feasts to honor the new arrivals.
