The Acid/Springboard Test

Abstract: Players, upon descending the stairs from the north corridor, will hear a shrill voice yelling, " Hey Boss!". By the cart on the south side the players will make out what appears to be an elderly gentleman dressed in a shiny and decorative red robe holding a staff. He is accompanied by 6 goblins and 4 hobgoblins. The DM may explain later that the old man is a wizard that helps run the place -- overseeing clean up dispatches doing simple chores like resetting traps, removing dead bodies, mopping up blood stains, etc. Anyway, the follow dialogue from the wizard and his crew continues, "Gather up everything, hurry, hurry!" the wizard barks. One hobgoblin is fumbling around trying to point the cart towards the south double door when the wizard yells, "Push it!" But before the wizard repeats the command in the creatures native tongue the idiot hobgoblin pushes the cart off the edge into the acid river. The other goblinoids are laughing making their way out as the wizard steps over to the hobgoblin a thwarts him across the head with his hand and pulls him by the ear. The double doors close and the sound of a key rattling in the lock may be heard by players with a keen sense of hearing. The acid pool is illuminated by torch light. The square islands may be accessed by using the benches (note: one bench is to short ). The "springboards" on the circular islands not only force jumpers to make a dexterity roll, they also act as a mechanism popping open various trap doors on the square shaped isles; thus releasing monsters, dizzy gas, illusions, revealing treasure, etc. The rest is up to the DM. Have fun!
